Parliament Passes Draft Law on Electoral Code

On April 1, the NA Standing Committee debated in the second reading the draft law on Making Amendments and Addenda to the Constitutional Law on the RA Electoral Code for completely passing the draft law, authored by the NA deputies Arman Babajanyan, Sergey Bagratyan, Vahagn Hovakimyan and Hamazasp Danielyan.

The key rapporteur Vahagn Hovakimyan informed that written proposals were not presented by the deputies. The draft law was revised by his recommendation. All the amendments to those recommendations which referred to holding elections during the pandemic were removed. The deputy noted that there were also technical rectifications.

Amendments are proposed by the draft law, by which the reform of the proportional electoral system is guaranteed and the opportunity of holding elections by the territorial electoral rolls is abolished.

Arusyak Julhakyan presented the endorsement of the NA Standing Committee on the State and Legal Affairs by co-report. The deputy called on to vote for the bill.

The RA Deputy Minister of Justice Kristinne Grigoryan, presenting the position of the Government, underlined that the bill was undergone enough professional discussion.

The Parliament completely passed the draft law in the second reading on Making Amendments and Addenda to the Constitutional Law on the Electoral Code of the Republic of Armenia by 8 2 votes .

Covering the agenda, the parliament ended the work of the extraordinary sitting
